KERAVA CHURCH
Address: Papintie 2 Tel +358 9 478 488
Kerava church is the creation of the architect Ahti Korhonen, and was completed in 1963. The white concrete- and brick-built church exemplifies modern church architecture with its bent for a restrained and functional use of space. Light in conjunction with the white expanse of the wall surfaces creates the impression of silence.
The altar relief and altar crucifix are the work of sculptor Kauko Räsänen. The stained glass of the main doors was designed by Professor Lauri Ahlgren. Concerts are held in the church both in summer and winter. In summer they take place on Thursdays beginning at 8 p.m.
The 34-stop organ gives the church its Scandinavian-Romantic aspect, and affords the possibility of holding first-rate organ recitals by either Finnish or foreign organists. Concerts in the church are organised by the church’s music department.
